X-Rite eXact™ Instrument
80
Setup
Follow the instructions below if you have not already attached the scan chassis to the instrument.
IMPORTANT:
The scan chassis aperture configuration must match the instrument aperture configuration.
Once the instrument is attached to the scan chassis, make sure the system is always placed on a
flat surface and does not roll. When placing it on a table with up to 15° surface, always place it on
the parking pad.
1. Flip the target window back 180° on the bottom of the target base.
2. Align the latch pin in the target base over the opening in the scan chassis and press down to
lock in place.
Removing the Scan Chassis
Press the release button on the side of the scan chassis and lift the instrument upwards.
Operation
The following instructions describe the procedures required to measure a color bar and spot color
using the eXact scan option.
Best Practices
Before scanning a color bar, inspect the patches for any defects or spots. Defects may
cause inaccurate measurements.
When scanning card stock, make sure to place an extra piece at the edge of the stock by
the first and last patch. This will ensure that the instrument is level during the whole scan.
Make sure the attached scan chassis aperture matches the instrument’s aperture.
The scan chassis incorporates a timing wheel generator to help monitor the scan speed.
For best results, always scan a color bar using steady, consistent speed with the white
circle on the screen. Ensure that the timing wheel generator is kept clean. Refer to the
Appendix for cleaning procedure.
For the best scanning results, it is recommend to have the instrument start scanning on
the patch furthest from you and work your way back towards you. This method allows you
to better check the instrument’s alignment on the color bar as it is moving towards you.
